Narasimha Dev Temple

Located at the foothills of Susunia Hill, this temple is dedicated to Lord Narasimha, a revered form of Vishnu. It houses a striking idol believed to have been carved from a single monolith, reflecting remarkable craftsmanship. Adding to its spiritual significance, a natural freshwater spring emerges from the monolith within the temple premises, and its water is considered sacred by devotees.

Dhara (Spring)

Emerging from the idol within the Narasimha Temple, this natural spring is considered sacred and is believed to possess medicinal properties due to its rich mineral content. Flowing continuously throughout the year, it also serves as a vital source of fresh water for local communities, visitors, and trekkers spending time around the hill.

Shilalipi of King Chandravarmana

The term Lipi in Sanskrit translates to 'script' or 'writing', and at Susunia Hill, it refers to an ancient rock carving believed to date back to the 4th century AD. This inscription is regarded as one of the oldest in West Bengal and is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The carving is composed of 2 distinct sections and features a prominent chakra (wheel) with radiating, flame-like edges, adding both historical and symbolic significance to the site.

Chhatna Basuli Mandir

This temple is dedicated to Goddess Basuli, a revered form of the Mother Goddess (Shakti), and holds deep spiritual significance for the local community. It is also historically important, as it is closely associated with the renowned medieval poet Boru Chandidas, who is believed to have composed some of his works here.

At the foothills of Susunia Hill, you’ll find local artisans crafting a variety of stone carvings, ranging from deities to everyday objects. You can also spot smaller artefacts made from stone dust, each reflecting the region’s traditional craftsmanship. These make for thoughtful souvenirs to pick up before heading back home.
